My wife and I enjoy trying new places and we decided to celebrate our wedding anniversary here at Vera Mae's Bistro. Had a great time - it was warm enough to sit outside and there was only one other table occupied but was vacated before we got our food so it was like we had a private place all to ourselves, which was fun.

The dinner rolls that came out while we were waiting for our main course were average, but still good. After that everything steadily improved and provided an elevated experience worthy of a celebration. Salad was fresh, dressing was good, and starting with French onion soup, the food was very tasty and fun to eat. We both got different chicken dishes, and they were something to go back for. Presentation was nice and we had fun evening together. We both ordered creme brulee for dessert and it was actually a little different flavor than we expected but made well and we loved it.

Service was friendly and knowledgeable, which was expected at this level of venue, but doesn't always happen these days so that was nice. Overall, this is a great value for the cost. This doesn't necessarily fit our frugal food budget but for a celebration meal this was very well worth the cost.

While the place was absolutely gorgeous, drinks were amazing, staff was so nice. I ordered the NY strip cooked medium, it was fairly pink but man it was GOOD. So I didn’t think anything of it, two hours later everything was out of my system and I had food poisoning. So with that being said it’s a great place but if you want it actually medium go a cooking scale up. And be careful.

I’m so sad at the apparent downhill slide since the “founding” owners left. I stopped with a friend to check out the happy hour offerings… the appetizers were so-so and the crab cakes were def NOT fresh. The Pinot noir had gone to vinegar in my wine flight. We also ordered the escargot and the sauce had zero garlic and tasted sweet? Both of us had stomach issues the next day.

I had such a great experience dining in. It was my wife and I's 5th anniversary. We sat at a table in the corner looking out at the street, which we quite liked. It was a more intimate area. The lighting was dim but not too dim, it really set the mood for the night. Our server was attentive, but not too much so that it became overbearing. He was very knowledgeable on the menu items and gave us some great insight on what to order.

We ordered the Cromini Crustini as the appetizer, and it was very decadent. Very creamy with the perfect amount of Balsamic glaze on top.

After the appetizer, my wife got the onion soup, while I got the Curried Potato soup. The curry was good, but after tasting that onion soup, I wished I had gotten it. We both agreed that it was the best onion soup we've ever tasted.

My wife settled on the 14 oz. Strip Steak, and I on the Chicken Marcona. The Chicken Marcona was a perfect mix of salty/sweet. The sides were very normal, just green beans and mashed potatoes, nothing special. My wife's steak was very good, nice and tender. It paired very well with the pickled onions on the side.

For dessert, I got the pecan crusted cheesecake, while my wife ordered the creme brulee. Both were exceptional in our book.

Overall we loved the ambiance, food, and staff of Vera Mae's, and we will definitely be back!

We've been eating here since high school. Tonight was the first time we were disappointed. The service and hospitality were great. The food, not so much. My husband's salmon was undercooked and cold. My "side" of brocoli was literally a single piece of brocoli and the fried raspberry chicken was very salty. They had a very limited dessert menu and the jazz music playing over the speakers was a little too loud and made it hard to have a conversation. The restaurant is downtown Muncie, but there is plenty of parking, although you may have to walk a bit.

Vera Mae’s Bistro is located in downtown Muncie Indiana. This elegant restaurant has in-door and out-door seating. Walk-ins are welcome but making a reservation will help with making sure you get a table. They offer off site catering and provide for group events at the restaurant. I am a local and have been eating here for years now and my taste buds never get bored. They have daily specials so be sure to ask what they are. I recommend the “French Onion 🍜” (picture shown) for starters. For the entree the “Porterhouse PorkChop” 😋 (picture shown) with which ever vegetable and starch they are serving for the day will be sure to please your palate. For dessert 🍮 the “Bread Pudding” (picture shown) is a must. The bar is also a must when visiting this very fine establishment. The drinks are hands down the best in a million miles! I recommend the French Martini 🍸 (picture shown). The owners and the staff are fabulous so be sure to introduce yourself! 🤝

A gem in Muncie and my new favorite date night spot. The food, atmosphere and service were perfect. I had a couple amazing espresso-tinis and a Punta Cana Martini while my husband tried The adventurer. All were delicious. We shared a Japanese inspired app that was unique and tasty. Hubs had the best onion soup I’ve ever tried and I started with a salad with a perfect house blue cheese dressing. I had the special which was a take on chicken and waffles that featured fried chicken with a hot honey sauce, sweet corn bread and bacon collard greens. I lived in the south for 9 years so I was very please and nostalgic for it. My husband had the ribeye and was also happy with his meal. No room for dessert but I definitely plan on going again and exploring the menu more.
